Norfolk State junior Kierra Wheeler has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday night.
The recognition comes after a pair of outstanding showings in victories over App State and Hampton. The performances helped Norfolk State earn its first 5-0 start since the 1995-96 season.
Wheeler posted a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double against App State, tallying a career-best four steals in the process. She followed that showing up with 15 points and nine rebounds at Hampton, adding a block for good measure.
Norfolk State returns to action on Friday, Nov. 24 against East Tennessee State at 1:30 p.m. The game will open the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament in Coral Gables, Fla.
